It’s Been One Busy Year for Me

by Rachel on December 31, 2011

As 2011 is hours away from coming to a close, I can’t help but look back at what a busy year I’ve had. This “collage” shows what I’ve been up to. Be sure to expand it for the details.

Ninjanimals Kidz – 4 years old and very busy

One busy year for Ninjanimals Kidz and me!

For the past seven to eight months I’ve been putting a massive amount of work into getting three new Cafepress stores up and running. And that work and the creation of the starburst product-line has been amazing. I love the products which have been created for the Ninjoys and Ninjoes (a.k.a. Karate Girls and Karate Boys).

Earlier this year I created an iGoogle theme which was truly a labor of love on my part. I learned a lot in the process — not sure if I want to repeat it — but I now enjoy it every day on my personalized iGoogle page.

There also has been tons of work put into three additional illustrated stories and their templates which I haven’t posted yet. I’m so looking forward to completing and posting these three new stories (!) and hope to get that done soon.

A few weeks ago I created three business pages on Facebook for the Karate Kidz, Karate Boys and Karate Girls stores. I haven’t really advertised or promoted these FB pages yet, but hope to figure out how to do that one of these days. When there’s time, right?

And through all of this, I continue refining the websites and working on new ideas of what I want for the Ninjanimals Kidz and for myself.

I’m looking forward to 2012 and all that a new year will bring.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Happy New Year 2012 – from Ninjanimals Kidz

Happy New Year Everyone! Welcome 2012!

It continues to be an awesome adventure.

Hugs, and much love,
Rachel

I Heart SCBWI

by Rachel on February 14, 2011

I was just reading my SCBWI magazine and couldn’t believe the volume of information it contained!

I Love this Magazine – SCBWI Bulletin - Cover Art © by Richard Jesse Watson

A Great Magazine Filled with Great Articles

This is the magazine of a membership group called the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. It’s filled with adorable illustrations, news of the children’s book world, articles and advice for writers and illustrators, and announcements of local chapter events.

These articles are useful on so many levels and provide plenty of encouragement and ideas for those of us who need that. For example, the Jan/Feb 2011 issue had a tech based article on publishing on Kindle, an article on avoiding bad contracts, an article on advertising through book blogs – all extremely useful and current topics. And these were just some of the usual fare they publish.

I’m glad I kept up my membership with SCBWI, and now intend to go back through my older magazines, and see what else I may have missed!

Storybook Covers At Last!

January 30, 2011

For the longest time I have wanted to present the stories with storybook covers. I had even worked out a design using an illustration of a book, and working out the colors and titles. So, finally, at long last, the stories go from the main Read Stories page, to an illustrated cover and short story [...]

November 14, 2010

For awhile now I have been toying with the Ninjanimals Kidz Home Page. I have redesigned it quite a few times over these past two years. I always wanted it to bright and colorful and child-oriented. So I filled it with a bright and fast slideshow and large colorful buttons decorated with cute icons. Still, [...]

Three Year Milestone for Ninjanimals Kidz!

September 14, 2010

Three years ago today I approached Peter Yim for the first time with the idea of getting some cartoon characters copyrighted and turned into cute t-shirt characters. Basically, I had been looking for “something” for a long time – something cute, something special, something amazing. It hadn’t occured to me six months before, that Pete [...]
